Temperature likely to rise gradually: Met office

The cold wave may disappear in the coming days as the temperature is likely to rise gradually in the country, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
A mild to severe cold wave that is sweeping over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna and Barishal divisions and the districts of Cumilla, and Moulvibazar, is likely to subside in some places, the Met office said.
The current temperature of the country may rise gradually in upcoming days, said Monowar Hossain, a meteorologist at the BMD.
However, one or two mild cold waves may sweep in the first part of the next month in the country, he added.
Meanwhile, the country’s lowest temperature of the season was recorded at 5 degrees Celsius in Tetulia of Panchagar on Sunday.
The mercury dipped to 5 degrees Celsius in Tetulia on the day, overlapping the previous lowest temperature of 5.8 degrees Celcius recorded in the same place on Friday.
The previous lowest temperature in the country was 5.6 degrees Celsius in Sreemangal on 20 January 2023, according to the BMD.
In Dhaka, the lowest temperature was recorded at 12.7 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
As per the BMD, temperatures below 6 degrees Celsius is considered as a severe cold wave.
