Political temperature in the country seems to be rising as the ruling Awami League announces rally on 30 January after the BNP declaring programme on the same day, with AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader threatening to thwart the opposition party.
Terming the opposition BNP as a communal force, the senior AL leader on Saturday said that the BNP must be stopped.
“All pro-liberation forces should unite to eliminate the collaborative imps from the country,” Obaidul Quader said at a “Peace and Democracy Rally” arranged by the Dhaka South city AL at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue in the capital.
The AL general secretary announced to hold countrywide similar rallies on Tuesday and asked party leaders and activists to participate in the programme with the national and party flags.
He also called on party members to stay alert about the BNP and their likeminded parties.
Pointing to the BNP, Awami League general secretary said, “They call foreigners against the government and the country. They (BNP leaders) have no patriotism. They want to bring sanctions from across the Atlantic. Sheikh Hasina does not fear anyone except Allah. She does not care about anyone except the people of this country.”
At the rally, AL Presidium Member Abdur Razzaque said, “BNP has tried everything to thwart the election. However, we have conducted peaceful elections against all conspiracies.
AL Joint General Secretary and Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud commented that the people have shown a black flag to the BNP by voting for the Awami League.
“Various heads of state have congratulated Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who was elected by the people of Bangladesh. Foreigners did not respond to their (BNP) movement and the countrymen shunned them,” said Hasan Mahmud.
AL Presidium Members Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin, Kamrul Islam, Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Organising Secretary BM Mozammel Haque and other central leaders of AL also spoke in the rally.
Dhaka South city AL President Abu Ahmed Mannafi chaired the rally, conducted by General Secretary Humayun Kabir.
