‘Brick Kiln Tracker’ to be used to identify polluters: Minister

Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Saber Hossain Chowdhury on Thursday said the government will use ‘Brick Kiln Tracker’ to detect illegal brick kilns and identify individuals contributing to environmental pollution through their operation.
“It will be easier to stop illegal activities by identifying harmful brick kilns on a priority basis.  This will help reduce air pollution caused by brick kilns.” The environment minister made the statements during the president’s speech at the presentation of the Brick Kiln Tracker in the meeting room of the ministry at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
“The Brick Kiln Tracker based on IT and remote sensing technology has been developed in a joint venture between the Department of Environment and the National University of Singapore,” said the minister.
He said monitoring and enforcement activities of the Department of Environment will be strengthened and successful with the help of this latest technology.
Secretary of the Ministry Dr. Farhina Ahmed, Additional Secretary (Environment) Sanjay Kumar Bhowmik, Director General of Department of Environment Dr. Abdul Hamid and Professor of National University of Singapore Dr. Martin Mattsson along with senior officials of the ministry and Department of Environment were present on the occasion.
