22nd Dhaka Int’l Film Fest begins tomorrow

The 22nd edition of Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) will begin at Bangladesh National Museum Auditorium in the capital tomorrow.
Renowned Indian actor Sharmila Tagore will inaugurate the ceremony at 4:00pm. After the inaugural ceremony, noted Bangladeshi actor Jaya Ahsan-starrer Iranian film “Fereshte” directed by Morteza Atashzamzam will be screened at 5:00pm as the inaugural film.
The film, “Mujib: The Making of a Nation”, directed by Shyam Benegal will also be screened at 7:00 pm on the opening day.
“Fereshte” will be shown in the Asian Competition segment while “Mujib: The Making of a Nation” in the Bangladesh Panorama section.
This was disclosed at a press conference held at Samson H. Chowdhury Centre, Dhaka Club in the capital on Thursday. Festival Director Ahmed Muztaba Zamal, cultural personality M Hamid, Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Shyamal Dutta, among others, were present on the occasion.
A total of 252 films from 74 countries will be screened in various sections, including Asian Cinema, Retrospective, Tribute, Wide Angle, Bangladesh Panorama, Cinema of the World, Children Films, Women Filmmakers, Short and Independent Films, and Spiritual Films at the festival.
The screening will be held at Sufia Kamal and Main Auditoriums of Bangladesh National Museum, Theatre and Dance Auditoriums of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), Foreign Service Academy and Alliance Française de Dhaka Auditorium in the capital simultaneously.
The Festival will also feature masterclasses by noted filmmakers, including Iranian director Majid Majidi, Indian musician Anjan Dutt and Chinese film expert Shi Chuan.
The nine-day Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) will continue till 28 January.
