Rejecting the road accident fatality report given by Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity, Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) said 5,024 lives were lost in 5,495 road accidents in the country in 2023.
BRTA chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder unveiled this information at a press conference at the BRTA headquarters in the capital on Tuesday.
He said as per the BRTA report, 5,024 people were killed in 5,495 road accidents last year, and according to a report of the police, the number of fatalities was 4,475 in 5,093 road accidents last year.
Meanwhile, as per the report of the Road Safety Foundation, 6,911 road accidents had claimed 6,524 lives last year, Nur Mohammad said, adding that Bangladesh Jatri Kalyan Samity exaggeratedly claimed that 7,902 lives were lost in 6,261 road accidents in 2023.
The BRTA chairman said the number of fatalities in road crashes published by Jatri Kalyan Samity is inflated than the reports placed by other organisations.  Therefore their (Jatri Kalyan Samity) report is not acceptable, he added.
