The unrest has further deepened in the Jatiya Party (JaPa) as its Chairman GM Quader kicked out two more senior leaders from the party on Sunday.
The newly expelled leaders are presidium member Shafiqul Islam Sentu and Vice Chairman Yeahya Chowdhury.
Quader, in a press statement, dismissed them from their respective party posts.
The party, on the same day, also dissolved its Dhaka North city unit committee, said a media release signed by JaPa Joint Office Secretary Mahmud Alam.
Meanwhile, JaPa chairman’s adviser and the party’s former health secretary MM Niaz Uddin also parted ways from the party the same day.
MM Niaz Uddin had contested the elections from Gazipur-1 and Gazipur-5 constituencies in the 12th parliamentary election. He, however, had withdrawn his candidacy from the election race few days before the election.
The aggrieved leaders of the party who were candidates in the just concluded national election also held a meeting at Institution of Diploma Engineers in the capital on Sunday.
JaPa Co-Chairman Syed Abul Hossain Babla, presidium members Shafiqul Islam, Saifuddin Ahmed Milon, among others, spoke at the meeting.
They alleged that GM Quader and the party secretary general didn’t cooperate them in the election.
Several central leaders and around 133 grassroots leaders of the party who had contested in the national elections spoke during a views-exchange meeting.
Earlier, JaPa relieved its Co-Chairman Kazi Firoz Rashid and presidium member Sunil Shubho Roy from all of their positions in the party.
The JaPa chairman made the decision, which has already become effective, exercising his authority bestowed upon him by the party’s constitution, read a press release issued on Friday.
In the 12th parliamentary election held on 7 January, the Jatiya Party faced a debacle securing only 11 seats though the party had reached a deal with the ruling Awami League to make its victory in 26 seats with the withdrawal of the ruling party contestants.
