13 fishermen remain missing for 6 days in Bay of Bengal

The authorities are yet to trace a fishing trawler titled “FB Ma Janani” that went missing six days ago with 13 fishermen on board in the Bay of Bengal.
The trawler went fishing in the Bay of Bengal from Anwara upazila of Chattogram on 3 January.
Although another trawler has been operating search operation yet no trace of the fishing trawler was found till Tuesday evening.
The missing fishermen are including Md Morshed, 22, Md Rashed, 30, Md Chalam, 40, Jalal Uddin, 30, Ali Hossain, 35, Md Mannan, 30, Kala Mia, 40. All of them are from upazila’s Raipur union.
According to locals, on 3 January around 8pm, the fishermen went into the deep sea from the Sarenga point of Sangu river in Raipur and never returned.
Raipur Union Jubo League General Secretary Obaidul Haque Munna and Battali Union's Mizanur Rahman jointly owned the trawler.
Trawler owner Obaidul Haque Munna said that after two days on 5 January, the trawler's in-charge, Kalu Mia told him over cell phone that their trawler's engine has broken down and they were floating in the sea south of Saint Martin on the Bay of Bengal.
“After that, we sent another trawler to rescue them, but the mobile communication with the fishermen was unavailable. I’ve informed the Navy by calling 999 about the matter.”
The trawler left with food reserve for 15 days for the fishermen, he added.
Meanwhile, the family members of the missing fisherman are suffering from grave concern. Missing fisherman Morshed's mother said, Morshed got married two weeks ago. He went sea to support the family.
Gahira Naval Police In Charge Md Faruq said, “I have heard about the disappearance of the trawler but written complaint was filed in this regard. I’ve informed the Sangu Station Coast Guard as we were on election duty.”
Besides, Sohail Ahmad, officer-in-charge of Anwara Police Station, said, "No one informed us about the disappearance of the trawler.”
