Science Film Festival to begin on Oct 1

The fifth edition of the Science Film Festival (SFF) 2023 will begin on October 1, hosted by Goethe-Institute Bangladesh. In a hybrid format, the fest enabling both offline and online attendance will run till December 20.
This year’s festival focuses on the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration. The festival features 150 films from 35 countries as the international official selection. A selection of 29 films will be available for the Bangladeshi audience where filmmakers, educators, students, and film enthusiasts can watch the films through registration.
The inauguration celebration will be held on October 14 with local partners at Maple Leaf International School in Dhaka. The ceremony will be inaugurated by Frank Werner, director of the Goethe-Institut Bangladesh.
Along with the screening of the films, workshops for students and educators, quiz and science discussions will be carried out during the festival time. During the festival there will be a ‘VR-STEAM Corner’ at the Goethe-Institut library. Two online workshops along with offline workshops will also be organised in November and December.
The festival will visit remote areas like Dinajpur, Rangpur, Nilfamari and Naogaon of Bangladesh, where film screenings and science workshops will be organised for students with a team of science educators.
The partners for this year’s festival are Aspire to Innovate (A2i), Human Development Media, Kishor Batayan (Konnect), Alokito Hridoy Foundation, JAAGO Foundation, Teach for Bangladesh (TFB), Netz Bangladesch, UNESCO, University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh, Jahangirnagar Cine Society, MIST Drama and Film Society, Sylhet Agricultural University Film Society (SAUFS), Children’s Film Society Bangladesh (CFS) and PASCH-Schools: Partners for the Future, Maple Leaf International School, European Standard School (ESS), Oxford International School (OIS), Mastermind International School in Chittagong.
