The US visa policy would not impact on the businesses in Bangladesh. Those responsible for election violence will face the restrictions, a top policymaker of the government said.
“Those who commit violence over the election will come under the US visa policy. So, there will have no impacts on businesses,” Salman F Rahman, a private industry and investment adviser to the prime minister, told a press conference on Saturday.
Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP) organised the third edition of International Conference on Urban and Regional Planning at Pan Pacific Sonargaon in the capital.
German Ambassador Achim Tröster, Housing and Public Works secretary Kazi Wasiuddin, UN-Habitat executive director Maimunah Mohd Sharif were present as special guests on the occasion.
BIP president Mohammad Fazle Reza Sumon presided over the programme.
Salman F. Rahman mentioned that the American visa policy is a good initiative to tackle those who will hinder a fair election.
“Because the government is saying that it will hold a free and fair election, and the opposition party is saying that it won’t allow elections to be held under Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said there is nothing to be afraid of the US visa restrictions on Bangladeshis. This will at least save the lives of the people of the country. Now, Jamaat-BNP would not be able to set fire any more.
Before this, the foreign ministry said this visa policy has been applied for several Bangladeshis ahead of the elections.
