Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has solved the mystery behind the murder of school teacher Momtaz Begum that her own brother and five nephews killed her for grabbing her land.
The PBI so far arrested six killers. And it submitted a charge sheet against eight people -- her brother Abdur Rashid Sarkar and five nephews and two brickfield workers -- before a Gazipur court in August.
Next day, her body was found at Mandalbari in Baghia. Her eldest daughter Jannatul Ferdous filed a murder case against unknown people with Konabari Police Station. The case was handed over to the PBI Gazipur unit.
According to the PBI unit, Uchsas, a nephew of Momtaz, was locked in a quarrel with one Mamun on March 12 this year.
At one point of argument, Mamun threatened Uchsas that he would disclose the fact and then Uchsas made a counter threat to him, saying, “Your (Mamun) condition will be like my aunt.”
A police source heard their arguments and informed the PBI of the matter. Then, the PBI came to Mamun and asked him about the murder.
Mamun disclosed that he saw that Uchsas, his own four brothers, his paternal uncle, his (uncle) son, and two brickfield workers dump the body of the woman.
The police unit arrested Uchsas and he gave confessional statement before the court.
Later, police held Uchsas’s brothers--Anupam Hayat, Nazmus Sakib and Hasib and two brickfield workers -- Babul and Habibur Rahman.
But Abdur Rashid, 57, and his son Asaf-ud-Daula went into hiding.
According to the statement of Uchsas said that his aunt Momtaz has a plot measuring 30 decimals at Mollapra in Baghia.
His uncle Rashid gave Tk 300,000 to aunt to buy it. Just with the money, he took registration of the land from her, but the aunt could realise the matter.
On March 1, 2019, Rashid called his sister to come to his house. After coming, he asked her to register the land, but she did not agree.
At one stage, Rashid, his son and four nephews suffocated her to death and dumped the body with the help of the two workers.
