A total of 17 people died of dengue while 3,084 were diagnosed with the mosquito-borne disease in 24 hours until 8:00am on Monday, bringing the number of deaths to 246 and cases to 46,960 this month so far.
Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said 10 of the new deaths were reported in the capital and seven in countryside while 894 of the fresh cases were logged in Dhaka and 2190 in other parts of the country.
The month of August this year experienced the worst dengue situation as 71,976 people were diagnosed with the disease and 342 died until the end of the month.
Some 43,854 people were hospitalised while 204 died in July.
Of the total, 56.5 percent (96,641) of dengue cases have been reported outside Dhaka city while nearly 68.4 percent (574) of deaths have been recorded in the capital.
The health directorate said a total of 839 people died of the disease, and 170768 have been hospitalised with the deadly fever so far this year.
The DGHS noted that the dengue fatality rate is 0.5 percent, while the recovery rate has reached 94 percent. In the capital, the fatality rate is 0.8 percent, and it is 0.3 percent in the countryside.
