After a 10-day interrogation in police custody, eight officers and employees of Dhaka Customs House were shown arrested in the 55.51kg gold heist case on Wednesday.
Uttara DB Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) showed them arrested and recovered 1.096 kg of the missing gold.
Of the arrestees, four are Assistant Revenue Officers -- MasumRana, Saidul Islam Shahed, Shahidul Islam and Akram Sheikh, and the rest four are Sepoys -- RezaulKarim, MozammelHaque, AfzalHossain and NiamatHowlader.
After showing them arrested, the DB police produced the officers and employees before a Dhaka court with a 10-day remand plea.
After hearing the remand plea, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad MehediHasan placed them on a five-day remand, said DC Akramul.
On the place of gold recovery, he said that the information of the eight helped the cops recover the quantity of gold from a customs storehouse at HazratShahjalal International Airport (HSIA).
On September 2, the customs authorities noticed the missing of the gold from an almirah at Customs Transit Godown-1 at the HSIA.
In the case, the complainant mentioned the names of the eight officers and employees, saying that their answers to the questions about the gold missing were unsatisfactory.
On that day, the members of the police station took them to the station for interrogation.
After two days of interrogation, the case and the eight customs men were handed over to the Uttara DB on September 5 (Tuesday).
Since then, the detective police grilled them about the gold issue.
Investigation Officer of the case Inspector Rasel told the Daily Sun that different intelligence agencies members, including NSI and DGFI, also interrogated them in the DB custody as it was a sensitive incident.
In the meantime, on Monday, Dhaka Customs House temporarily suspended four AROs -- Masum, Saidul, Shahidul and Akram -- over the gold missing matter.
