Today is the birthday of noted actor ATM Shamsuzzaman and popular actress Sadika Parvin Popy.
Abu Taher Mohammad Shamsuzzaman, popularly known as ATM Shamsuzzaman, is a film and television actor, director and screen-playwright of the country. Born on September 10 in Noakhali, he started his film career began with filmmaker Udayan Chowdhury as an assistant director in films ‘Manusher Bhagban’. He got his breakthrough through his role in the film ‘Nayanmoni’ in 1976, directed by Amjad Hossain. Earlier he played the role of Ramzan in the play Sangsaptak, aired in 1960.
Shamsuzzaman died at his residence at Sutrapur in old Dhaka on February 20, 2021. He had been suffering from various diseases due to old age for a long time.
On the other hand, born on July 19 in 1954, Popy is a popular film actress of the country.
Popy started her career with the film ‘Amar Ghor Amar Behesht’ directed by Sohanur Rahman, but before it was released she made her film debut in ‘Coolie’ (1997) directed by Montazur Rahman Akbar. She debuted in television drama in Nayak, directed by Shahidul Islam Khan. Popy also performed in a web series titled ‘Garden and Indubala’.
The actress won Bangladesh National Film Award for Best Actress three times for the films ‘Karagar’ in 2003, ‘Megher Koley Roud’ in 2008 and ‘Gangajatra’ in 2009.
