A female physician of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) died of the deadly dengue fever early on Friday.
Sharifa Binte Aziz Ankhi, 27, breathed her last while undergoing treatment in the hospital at around 5:00am, DMCH Director Brig Gen Md Nazmul Haque told newsmen.
Sharifa, a student of FCPS Part II in DMCH, was working as an on-duty doctor in the medicine department. She worked in the dengue unit as well, the hospital sources said.
She obtained an MBBS degree from Rangpur Medical College. She was born in Joypara village in Dohar upazila of Dhaka district.
The Directorate General of Health Services expressed deep shock at the death of the doctor.
Earlier on August 8, another female doctor, Almina Dewan Mishu, 32, died of the fatal mosquito-borne disease while receiving treatment at DMCH.
SM Nazia Sultana, senior assistant secretary (WTO Wing) of the Ministry of Commerce, died from the disease at a hospital in the capital on July 25.
