Former ODI captain Tamim Iqbal is likely to start his rehabilitation soon, said Bangladesh Cricket Board officials on Sunday.

The left-handed opener made a sudden visit to the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur to make plans regarding his future course of action. He had met the physio and a member of the medical department to assess his condition.

“He (Tamim) is expected to start his rehabilitation soon,” said the official, adding that they are following the instructions provided by the physicians of England who are currently dealing with Tamim for his back problem.

Tamim is suffering from a back injury that forced him to step down as ODIs captain while he is also unavailable for the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled in Sri Lanka and Pakistan from August 30.

His current rehabilitation plan is to overcome the injury issues and return for Bangladesh’s home ODI series against New Zealand right before the World Cup in India.

Tamim is expected to start his rehabilitation with light exercises and later increase intensity of his work load while he is scheduled to start his batting from August 21.
