CHATTOGRAM: Azad Talukder, editor of Ekushey Patrika, a popular online Bangla news portal based in Chattogram, passed away at a private hospital in the capital in the early hours of Wednesday. He was 48.
Family sources said Azad had been suffering from various diseases including liver cancer.
Azad was later laid to eternal rest at his family graveyard following his third namaz-e-janaza on Padua Madinatul Ulum Dakhil Madrasha premises under Rangunia upazila after Asr prayer.
Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud expressed profound shock at his death.
The minister, who visited the journalist at hospital and inquired his health condition regularly, observed that Azad was a fearless and dedicated journalist.
He will be remembered in the field of journalism in Chattogram for long, said the minister.
Chattogram Union of Journalists (CUJ) President Tapan Chakraborty, General Secretary M Shamsul Islam and different other organisations and individuals also expressed condolence at his death.
He underwent treatment at various hospitals in the country and abroad.
Azad worked for different national and international media outlets for the last three decades before joining as editor at Ekushey Patrika.
