KHULNA: The civil surgeon of Khulna has been made OSD after his name appeared in a Tk 2.61 crore embezzlement case.
Khandaker Kamruzzaman, deputy assistant director of Anti-Corruption Commission’s Khulna divisional office, has filed a charge sheet against six people, including Civil Surgeon Dr Suzat Ahmed and former civil surgeon Dr Niaz Mohammad on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Satkhira Civil Surgeon Dr Md Sabizur Rahman has been appointed as the new civil surgeon of Khulna, according to a letter signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Md Alamgir Kabir.
On November 18, 2021, ACC Deputy Assistant Director Khandaker Kamruzzaman filed a case against Prakash Kumar Das for embezzling money from Covid-19 tests.
He was the only accused in the case. Later, investigation into the case revealed the involvement of five more people.
The six, in connivance with each other, collected samples of overseas-bound passengers and general Covid-19 patients using duplicate receipt books in the hospital booths outside the government receipt books and sent them to the RT-PCR lab of the Microbiology Department of Khulna Medical College for testing.
Later, the accused hid the actual number of sample collection and deposited Tk 1,68,46,700 instead of depositing the actual user fee totalling Tk 4,29,91,100 collected from outgoing passengers and general Covid-19 patients into the government treasury. They embezzled the remaining amount without depositing it, according to ACC officials.
