HABIGANJ: National Fisheries Week-2023 was celebrated with huge enthusiasm at Habiganj Agricultural University (HAU).
The festivities commence on Monday, with the Faculty of Fisheries orchestrating a colorful parade that begins from the premises of Academic Building No-1.
The subsequent discussion meeting was hosted by the acting chairman of the Department of Aquatic Resources Management and Conservation, lecturer Iftekhar Ahmed Fagun. Associate Professor Dr Arun Chandra Barman, chairman of Department of Oceanography and Blue Economy, Assistant Professor Dr Md Abubakar Siddik, acting chairman of Crop Botany Department and Deputy Registrar Md Sadekuzzaman delivered their speeches at the discussion.
During the programme, the speakers emphasised the visionary leadership of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in placing paramount importance on increasing fish production. Recently, the nation takes pride in achieving self-sufficiency in fish production, a feat made possible not only by the dedication of researchers but also by the pivotal role played by fish farmers. In the fiscal year 2020-21, a remarkable 46.21 lakh tonnes of fish were produced, and with further emphasis on research in the fisheries sector, this production level can undoubtedly be elevated.
The acting chairman and lecturer of the Horticulture Department, Jakaria Chowdhury Onik, the acting chairman and Lecturer of the Department of Physiology, Dr Rahima Akter Dipa, acting chairman and lecturer of the Department of Anatomy and Histology, Dr Salauddin Yusup, the acting chairman and lecturer of the Department of Aquaculture, Farjana Khanam Chadnee, the acting chairman and lecturer of the Department of Agronomy, Mohsina Mostari Liza, the acting chairman and lecturer of the Department of Soil Science, Md Habibullah Siddiki, the acting chairman and lecturer of the Animal Science Department, Dr Shirina Akter Toma, and the acting chairman and lecturer of the Animal Nutrition Department, Dr Jakia Sultana Koly were presented in the event, among others.
