Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen has emphasised on further cooperation from the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in ensuring safe, sustainable and dignified return of Rohingyas to their country of origin Myanmar.
The foreign minister told this when the newly appointed Head of Delegation of ICRC in Bangladesh Agnès Dhur presented her credentials to AK Abdul Momen at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the capital on Monday.
Abdul Momen recalled the invaluable role of ICRC in supporting Bangladeshi nationals during the Liberation War in 1971. He also applauded ICRC’s role during Covid-19 pandemic in Bangladesh.
Momen assured her of Bangladesh Government’s full support in delivering her duties during her tenure in Bangladesh.
Citing Bangladesh’s peace-centric foreign policy, he underscored the need of collective efforts in working for peace and stability around the globe.
The Head of ICRC Delegation thanked Foreign Minister for accepting her credentials.
She briefed the minister on their activities in Bangladesh, including those related to prison condition improvement, sanitation and drinking water. She expressed her willingness to further strengthen cooperation between Bangladesh and the ICRC in the coming years.
