Cop stabbed to death in capital

A police constable was stabbed to death in Farmgate area of the capital early on Saturday on his return from his native home after Eid holiday.
The deceased is Moniruzzaman, 40, who was working in Tejgaon Traffic Department.
Tejgaon Division Deputy Police Commissioner HM Azimul Haque said Moniruzzaman returned to Dhaka from his hometown Sherpur early on Saturday after the Eid holiday.
"He was stabbed in front of Sejan Point while heading towards Tejgaon Railway Station Traffic Office,” he added.
The plain-clothes policeman was found critically injured on the road.
Following a call to 999, the number of the National Emergency Service, police rescued Moniruzzaman and took him to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Moniruzzaman's body was sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem.
Azimul Haque said whether the killers were robbers or someone committed the murder due to a previous enmity is being investigated.
Shortly after the incident, police launched a massive hunt for the killers of Moniruzzaman.
