Familiarity breeds confidence for Karim

Afghanistan all-rounder Karim Janat is confident of making a mark if he is given a chance in the playing XI against Bangladesh during the one-off Test series as he is familiar with the conditions due to his stint in domestic cricket.

The all-rounder made a return to the Test squad after a gap of four years as he went into the wilderness following his maiden call-up in the one-match Test series against West Indies in 2019. However, the 24-year-old didn’t get a chance to feature in the match.

Karim has so far played in Bangladesh Premier League (franchise-based T20 tournament) for Comilla Victorians and Fortune Barishal while he traded his skills in the Dhaka Premier League, the country’s traditional list A tournament for Prime Bank Cricket Club.

“It’s true those experiences will help me. When you play a lot of cricket, it feels like it becomes your hometown, doesn't it? In Bangladesh, I played a lot like in recent times I played in the Dhaka Premier League (following the BPL),” Karim told The Daily Sun during a recent interview.

“What I feel is that cricket is a game played on that specific day if you have luck you can do a lot of things like you will be scoring runs with the bat or will be bowling in the right place on that particular day and you will only get what is destined for you,” he said.

“Apart from that you need to assess the condition and consider that because it will certainly benefit me. I have played in the BPL and Dhaka Premier League. I will be confident because I have played there and I will be quite familiar with it and I would know how the wicket will behave and what should be my plan of action for it,” he said.

The all-rounder also expressed his excitement to make a comeback in the Test format after a while.

“I am feeling very good (to make a comeback in the Test squad). Basically what I feel is that Test cricket is the proper form of cricket. Your skill set is examined thoroughly in this format,” he said.
