CHATTOGRAM: A biker was killed in a collision between a tank lorry and an oil-laden wagon train in the port city on Thursday night.
The ill-fated was identified as Moazzem Hossain Lablu, 38, hailed from the city’s Purba Madarbari area.
A tank lorry carrying hydrogen peroxide was also crossing the level-crossing at the same time. The locomotive of the wagon hit the lorry there and the tank fell on the street.
The biker Moazzem was injured as the tank fell on him after the accident. The incident left him killed on the spot.
Moazzem used to drive his bike through ride sharing apps, said In Charge Nurul Alam Ashek of Chattogram Medical College Hospital police outpost quoting the deceased’s relatives.
According to the sources, the lorry was heading towards the container depot of Ocean Container Limited (OCL) at Kathgarh in the city’s Patenga area carrying a tank of Hydrogen Peroxide.
The whole area was covered with black smoke soon after the collision.
Deputy Commissioner (Bandar) Shakila Sultana of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) said police and fire fighters recovered the body of the deceased after conducting search drives for more than an hour.
The tank was removed by a crane of the Chattogram Port Authority later, she said.
