Four killed in Cumilla road crashes

A man and his son, and a woman and her minor daughter were killed in separate road accidents in Cumilla district on Saturday.

The deceased were identified as Sohagh, 35, and his son M Sohel, 12, of Bataichharipara of Cumilla city, and Ferdousi Akhter, 18, wife of Sajal Sarkar of Purbapara village in Sadar upazila and their one-year-old daughter Sauda.

A train hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Jelkhanabari level crossing near Bijoypur of Sadar South upazila around 5:00pm, leaving Sohagh and Sohel dead on the spot.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Laksam Railway Police Station Jasim Uddin Khandkar said the accident occurred when the CNG-run auto-rickshaw was crossing the railway track through the illegal level crossing.

In the other accident, a truck ran over Ferdousi and her daughter Sauda at Srimaddi of Homna upazila in the morning.

Homna Police Station OC Saiful Islam said Ferdousi along with her daughter was going to her father's house by the three-wheeler.

The auto-rickshaw flipped over while trying to overtake a truck at Srimaddi around 11:30am, he said.

At that time, Ferdousi and Sauda fell on the ground and were run over by the truck, leaving them seriously injured.

Locals rescued them and took them to Homna Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
