Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal on Thursday said the government has taken up elaborate programmes to rid Dhaka and Chattogram cities of waterlogging woes.
“We have taken elaborate steps to restore canals by demolishing illegal structures built on the canals. These steps will help get rid of the problem,” he said.
Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal made the remarks while presenting the proposed national budget 2023-24. He said the responsibility of managing 26 canals of Dhaka city to eliminate waterlogging by Dhaka WASA has been entrusted to two city corporations.
For the sake of proper management of canals, canal restoration activities are being conducted along with the demolition of illegal structures. Dhaka South City Corporation has taken up the 'Canal Restoration, Renovation and Creation of Aesthetic Environment' project, which will be implemented during the period of 2022-2026.
