Four of West Indies A team batsmen scored a fifty each to drive their side to a strong position at the end of the opening day of the third and last unofficial Test against Bangladesh counterparts at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

Tagenarine Chanderpaul (83), Joshua Da Silva (82), Alick Athanaze (59) and Raymon Reifer (56 not out) all made valuable contributions as the visitors made 320-6 in the first innings at stumps of day one after they won the toss and decided to bat first.

However, the day’s play didn’t start in a similar fashion as the touring side lost Kirk McKenzie (0) and Zachary McCaskie (one) within the third over after pacer duo Musfik Hasan and Shoriful Islam took one wicket each. Tagenarine then shared an 82-run stand for the third wicket with Athanaze to steady their innings before he put up a 132-run stand with skipper Joshua to take their side to the 200-run mark.

Left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed removed Athanaze and Joshua before Musfik got the prized wicket of Tagenarine to complete his second wicket in the innings.

Nasum (3-92) then trapped Tevin Imlach (10) in front to reduce the visitors to 260-6 but an unbeaten 60-run stand between Raymon and Kevin Sinclair (22 not out) helped West Indies A team finish the day on top.

Saif Hassan is leading Bangladesh A in the contest in the absence of regular skipper Afif Hossain after he took a break to manage his workload. Experienced Mominul Haque, Nurul Hasan Sohan are featuring in the contest.

The hosts are currently trailing the series by a 0-1 margin after they lost the second match by three wickets at the same venue. The opening four-day match earlier ended in a draw.
