Legend of Rupganj, a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League team, has served a legal notice to left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam for breaching their agreement.
Rupganj Chairman Lutfur Rahman Badal confirmed the development to The Daily Sun and said that they didn’t do anything during the league as they did not have anything against Abahani Limited, a team where Tanvir played this year, despite taking advance money from Rupganj eight months back.
It is understood that Tanvir took BDT 30 lakh as advance from Rupganj to play in the league but later he changed his mind and joined Abahani. The 26-year-old also returned the money at that time.
However, according to the agreement signed between the club and the cricketer, it was clearly mentioned that if the cricketer breaches his contract, in that case, he is bound to pay three times more than the actual money that he received from the club.
Tanvir said that he was surprised while receiving the legal notice as he felt everything was sorted out earlier.
“They sent me the legal notice where it is mentioned that I have to pay BDT 90 lakh 30 thousand if I don’t play for them. I had a contract of BDT 37 lakh while I received BDT 30 Lakh as advance from them,” Tanvir told The Daily Sun.
“Later I paid them back the money to play for Abahani and felt that everything was sorted out but suddenly got this legal notice. It was nothing short of a surprise for me,” said Tanvir, who took 24 wickets during the league and played a key role in Abahani’s regaining the league title.
