What type of mattress is best for people with back pain?

Low back pain is very common. It can result from a sprain or strain (injury) to muscles or tendons in the back. Other causes include arthritis, structural problems and disk herniation or injuries. 80 to 90 percent pain resulted from mechanical problems that includes bad posture while seated, Poor sleeping positions and standing for long periods of time. A research says sleeping on wrong mattress is one of the most common causes of back pain. Let us discuss about mattress for people with back discomfort.

Look for one that is not too firm or too soft. If the mattress is too firm, it will push on your pressure points and cause misalignment. Similarly, if the bed is too soft, it will allow your body to sink into the bed causing bad posture while you sleep, which can then lead to pain. The right mattress should make you feel like you are floating on air. Through core strength training, patients with chronic low back pain can strengthen their deep trunk muscles. Scoliosis is a spine condition that occurs when the spine curves or twists to the side.

1.            People with back discomfort should generally sleep on a mattress up to knee-height

2.            Medium-firm mattresses should be straight and plain

3.            An old mattress or a mattress that is too soft for you can put unwanted strain on your spine leading to back pain

4.            Muscle strain or poor posture while leaving bed in the morning

Patients with chronic back pain should get advices of physiotherapy specialists.
