3 killed in road accidents
The mangled microbus lies on Dhaka-Cumilla highway after the accident on Sunday.

Three people, including a woman, were killed and six others injured in two separate road accidents in Cumilla and Lakshmipur on Sunday.

In Cumilla, two passengers of a microbus were killed and three others injured as the vehicle fell into a roadside ditch after being hit by a truck in Daudkandi upazila of the district.

The deceased were identified as Sattar Mia, 65, and Dulal Bapary, 62. Both were residents of the upazila.

The microbus fell into the ditch as the Dhaka-bound truck hit it from behind in front of Shahidnagar MA Jalil High School around 8:30am, said Md Jahangir, officer-in-charge of Daudkandi Highway Police Station.

One of the victims died on the spot and another was declared dead after he was rushed to a local hospital.

The truck toppled on its side upon impact, the OC said, adding police seized both vehicles after the accident.

In another incident, a woman was killed and three others including a child were seriously injured as a passenger bus collided head-on with a CNG run auto-rickshaw in Lakshmipur.

The incident happened around 10:00am in Mierberi area of Lakshmipur-Ramgati regional road. The deceased Jhorna Akter Sumi, 26, wife of Saleh Ahmed Rubel, hailed from Lakshmipur's Raipur upazila.

Of the injured, one was identified as Jewel Hossain, an employee of Lakshmipur Polli Bidyut Samity.       Lakshmipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mosleh Uddin said: "The CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying passengerswas going to komolnagar from Dakkhin Temuhani of Lakshmipur.

The passenger bus named 'Ma-er Doa' coming from Ramgati collided head-on with the auto-rickshaw in Mierberi area, leaving Sumi dead on the spot and three others injured."

Later locals rescued the injured and send them to hospitals, he also said. 

The dead body was sent to Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said, adding the truck driver managed to flee the scene.
