Experienced midwives can play a major role in lowering the maternal mortality rate by ensuring safe delivery, say experts.
“Emergency obstetrics care is vital to reduce maternal mortality rate. Midwives can play a major role in ensuring safe delivery. So, the country needs skilled midwives,” said Ahmed Mushtaque Raza Chowdhury, Convener to Bangladesh Health Watch (BHW).
“We have to think out of the box to move forward and to achieve maternal health-related goals of SDG within the stipulated period. Certainly, promotion of midwifery as a profession and deploying midwives in every union of the country is a sine qua non,” he said.
Rashed Rabbi, President of Bangladesh Health Reporters’ Forum (BHRF), said the country is facing an insufficient number of skilled midwives.
