25th Nat’l Art Exhibition begins Sunday

The 25th edition of National Art Exhibition, a flagship art venture by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA), will begin on May 28.  

The inaugural ceremony of the exhibition will be held at the National Art Gallery Auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) at 06:00pm on the day. 

Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud will grace the occasion as the chief guest while State Minister for Cultural Affairs KM Khalid will inaugurate the exhibition.  Cultural Affairs Ministry Secretary Khalil Ahmad and noted artist Hashem Khan will attend the programme as special guests with BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky in the chair. 

BSA Director of Fine Arts Syeda Mahbuba Karim will deliver the welcome speech at the programme.

This year, a total of 1138 artists submitted more than 2914 artworks to the event. A six-member selection committee, namely Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Saidul Haq, Konok Chapa Chakma,  Mokhlesur Rahman,  Mahbub Jamal Shamim and Mafizul Islam selected 301 artworks by 261 artists for the exhibition.

The organisers informed that a total of 96 paintings, 60 sculptures, 39 prints, 22 photographs, 08 installations, 10 oriental artworks, 10crafts, 11 new media works, 7 graphics works, and 6 potteries will be exhibited, alongside 3 special performance art shows.

The art works will be exhibited at gallery 1-7 at the National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy till July 15. 

This was disclosed at a press conference held at the seminar room of National Dance Theatre on Thursday.  BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky, BSA Administration Department Director Khondokar Rezaul Hashem and its Fine Arts Department’s Deputy Director A M Mostak Ahmed, among others, were present at the conference.

In addition to these presentations, a special segment consisting of four art projects, curated by four renowned artists will also be displayed in the art show. 

Eleven artists will receive the best awards in eleven categories, while five honorable mention awards will be given to five artists from different categories. Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy Award 2021, the top award covering all categories, will honour the best artist in the exhibition.

The exhibition will continue till July 15.
