Intraco Refueling Station Limited has signed an agreement with state-owned Sundarban Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited to provide additional gas from the Bhola gas fields to industries in Dhaka and Gazipur within next two months.

Shah Alam Mollah, the company secretary of Sundarban Gas, and Riyadh Ali, the managing director of Intraco, signed the deal on behalf of their respective organizations at a hotel in the capital on Sunday.

Currently, Bhola's gas fields have a reserve of over two trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas.

Intraco will compress five million cubic feet (mmcf) of gas per day from Bhola's gas fields and transport it to consumers via cascade cylinders in trucks. The compressed volume will be increased to 25 mmcf per day in the near future.

Industries receiving the gas will be charged Tk47.60 per unit, whereas the current rate for industrial gas is Tk30 per unit.

Dr Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, Prime Minister's energy adviser, attended the signing ceremony as the chief guest, while State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid  was present as a special guest.

Dr Khairuzzaman Mozumder, the secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, chaired the signing ceremony.

The Prime Minister's vision and leadership were credited with the transformation of the Bhola gas field into CNG format, with production expected to increase from the current 130-140 mmcfd to 200 mmcfd in the near future.

Nasrul Hamid expressed that this initiative would facilitate smooth operations for industries in Greater Dhaka and contribute to earning foreign currency.

The energy and mineral resources division secretary stated that the gas supply would benefit crisis-prone industrial units in Gazipur and Tangail.

Petrobangla chairman Zanendra Nath Sarker assured that the gas supply would be provided within the next two months.

Ali Azam, the Member of Parliament for Bhola-2, and Tofayel Ahmed, the managing director of Sundarbans Gas Company, also spoke at the event.
