Singer Noble arrested on fraud charge

Police arrested singer Mainul Ahsan Noble from the capital’s Demra on Saturday morning on charge of fraudulence.

A team of DB Lalbagh Division under Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) held him.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court placed him on a one-day remand in the case.

On his arrest, DMP Commissioner Khandker Golam Faruq told reporters that the singer received advance for performing at a programme, but did not do so.

Harun-Or-Rashid, additional commissioner (DB) of the DMP, explained that  Noble took Tk 1.72 lakh in advance against the contracted Tk 1.75 lakh for performing at a reunion programme of SSC Batch-2016 of Bhedarganj Headquarters Pilot Government  High School in Shariatpur on the institution premises on April 28.

But he did not perform at the programme.

On May 16, Safayet Islam, a student of the SSC Batch-16 and one of the organisers, filed a case against him with a Dhaka court.

Next day, the court took the case into account and ordered the Motijheel Police Station to record it.

The court also ordered the police station to submit its report before the court by July 9.

On Friday, the police station recorded the case.

Harun-Or-Rashid said that earlier Noble took advance from different function organisers, but did not perform.

Besides the case, different allegations were raised against Noble.

He was drunkard and broke stages of some functions. He used to torture his wife who complained to the DB.

The police officer said that he tried to make Noble understand several times, but he did not give up his bad habits.

“We have interrogated Noble and known from him that he has to drink wine every day. He has to take three/four sleeping pills per day. He told us that he learned it from some other singers. They give him wine, ganja, yaba and sleeping tablets,” said Harun.

“By drinking or taking drugs, he sleep all throughout the day and cannot go to the schedule programmes for musical performance,” the police officer said.

On April 27, he performed at a programme at Phulbari Degree College in Kurigram in a drunkard condition. Then, the viewers hurled shoes and bottles at him.
