President of Mauritius Prithvirajsing Roopun accompanied by his spouse and high officials of the government arrived Dhaka on Thursday to join the ‘6th Indian Ocean Conference 2023’ and other bilateral programmes.
He was received by Minister of Liberation War Affairs AKM Mozammel Huq at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
It is the first-ever visit to Bangladesh by a President of Mauritius.
The two countries enjoy excellent bilateral relations and are working to take the ties to a new height.
Mauritius named a street after Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on December 17 in 2020, symbolising the existing friendly relations between the two countries.
During his visit to Bangladesh, Prithvirajsing Roopun, also known as Pradeep Singh Roopun, will call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban.
Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmad will also pay courtesy calls on the visiting President of Mauritius.
The President of Mauritius will visit the Bangabandhu Memorial Museum to pay tribute to Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his martyred family members. He is also due to visit the Liberation War Museum in Dhaka.
During his tour, he will also see textiles industries in Bangladesh, reads a press release of the Foreign Ministry.
Bangladesh and Mauritius have excellent bilateral relations. The relations have been reinforced by presence of around 20,000 Bangladeshi workers in Mauritius.
