Rumky’s 2nd solo show ‘Freedom and Peace’ in Athens

Artist Hasura Akther Rumky’s second solo art exhibition titled ‘Freedom and Peace’ concluded at International Action Art Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands in Athens of Greece on Thursday.

The inaugural ceremony of the three-day show was held on May 2.  Bangladesh Ambassador to Greece Ashud Ahmed attended the ceremony as the chief guest while loannis Maronitis, President of Club for UNESCO of Piraeus and Islands and CEO International Action Art Club was the guest of honour.

A total of 18 art works were exhibited at the show. Through these works, the artist has brought out many things about herself and surroundings. Along with the constant striving to win freedom, the works also has depicted the unspoken expression of liberation from pain and despair.

About the exhibition, Rumky said, “The huge positive response to the first solo exhibition in Bangladesh which was held in January this year AT La Galerie of Alliance Francaise de Dhaka (AFD) has encouraged me to hold such exhibitions abroad. The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by many prominent people of Athens including members of parliament of Greece. This is a memorable event for me and my art practice. I want to go further with art.”

Hasura Akther Rumky earned both her BFA (honors) and MFA degrees from the Department of Oriental Art in the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka. She has received many awards, including the Grand Award at the ‘Bangabandhu International Art Exhibition’ at the Kahal Art Gallery in Japan in 2021 and the Honorable Mention Award at the 6th Oriental Painting Exhibition conducted by OPSG in 2016.
