A nor’wester swept across the capital and different districts of the country on Saturday evening, damaging a good number of houses and different crops on a vast tract of land.

A nor’wester swept through the capital with a speed of 62 kilometres per hour while hailstorms lashed different parts of the country, said Bazlur Rashid, a meteorologist of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).

Hailstorms accompanied by rain took place in most parts of Khulna, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Barisal divisions, he added.

The hailstorms damaged houses and crops and uprooted trees in several districts of the divisions.

Earlier on Saturday noon, the met office forecast that storms over 60-80 kilometres per hour may sweep 17 districts from 3:00pm to 1:00am.

The country’s highest temperature of 38 degrees Celsius was recorded in Khulna and Bandarban on Saturday. Dhaka’s temperature was 36.6 degrees.                Rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at one or two places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions with hails at isolated places, it also forecast.

Day and night temperatures may rise slightly over the country.
