Salma, Rumana rested for Sri Lanka tour

The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Tuesday rested their experienced cricketers – Salma Khatun and Rumana Ahmed for their upcoming white-ball series against Sri Lankan counterparts, scheduled to start on April 29 in Colombo.

Pacer Marufa Akter, who was part of the last ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad in South Africa, wasn’t included for the Sri Lanka tour as she will be appearing in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam later this month.

Sanjida Akther Maghla, Fariha Islam Trishna, Rabeya and uncapped Sultana Khatun got their places in the 16-member squad, which will be leaving for Sri Lanka on April 25.

“The weather and condition will be the biggest challenge for us and we have formed the team taking that into consideration,” Women’s team selector Monjurul Islam said in a video message on Tuesday.

“We have given rest to senior players as we have a lot of home and away series coming up,” he added.

Bangladesh will face the hosts in three WODIs on April 29, May 2 and 4 respectively at P. Sara Oval in Colombo before they play a three-match WT20I series, scheduled on May 9, 11 and 12 at SSC Ground in Colombo.

The ODI series is part of the ongoing ICC Women’s Championship.
