Film Artistes’ Association suspends Zayed Khan’s membership

Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association suspended the membership of actor Zayed Khan from the association on Sunday.

The association’s joint general secretary Symon Sadik has confirmed the news to the media. He said, “Majority of the members of the Film Artistes’ Association have expressed their opinion in favour of suspending Zayed Khan’s membership. In future, a decision may be taken to cancel his membership after talking to the advisors and lawyers of the artistes’ association”.

“The organisation suspended Zayed Khan’s membership for making derogatory remarks in the name of the opposition, president and general secretary of the association”, he added.

 Earlier, the membership of famous actress Sucharita and actor Rubel was temporarily suspended by the association.

The 17th edition of the Association elections was held at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) on January 28. Noted actor was Ilias Kanchan elected president and Zayed Khan was re-elected the general secretary. 

But Nipun launched a legal fight challenging legality of Zayed’s candidacy and accusing him of vote fraud. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on November 21 cleared the way for actress Nipun Akter to serve as the general secretary of the Bangladesh Film Artistes’ Association (BFAA).

It may be mentioned that, Zayed served as the General Secretary of the association for two terms previously.
