Body of missing Chinese crewman recovered from Ctg canal

CHATTOGRAM: Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard recovered the body of Chinese crewman, who went missing following an accident in the sea, from a canal at Ananda Bazar in the city’s Halishahar area on Friday morning.

The ill-fated man was identified as Zhang Mingyan, 43, bearing passport no. EB2403999.

He was the Chief Engineer of the Chinese-flagged bulk-carrier ‘MV Kang Huan.’

Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) Deputy Conservator Captain Faridul Alam said Coast Guard recovered the body from Ananda Bazar Khal in Halishahar area around 9:00am.

Legal action will be taken in this regard, he said.

Earlier, a lifeboat with 16 crewmembers of the ship was capsized during a drill at the Alpha Anchorage of Outer Anchorage of Chattogram Port on Tuesday.

The boat unlocked from davit hook suddenly during the drill and fell into the sea resulting in the accident, said sources.  Zhang went missing in the accident.

The Coast Guard and Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) carried out search for the missing crew.

It may be mentioned that the stone-laden vessel arrived in the Chattogram Port area from a port of the UAE on Sunday.
