Journalists came under attack in an iftar party hosted by BNP in the city’s Mirpur area on Friday, leaving several of them injured.

The camera of private television channel NEWS24 was also vandalised during the attack.

Pallabi and Rupnagar thana units of BNP arranged the iftar party at Mirpur-2 Community Centre where party Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was the chief guest.

Some BNP activists were locked in a brawl with journalists while they were discharging their professional duty during the iftar party.

At one stage, the BNP men swooped on the reporters, leaving several of them, including NTV Special Correspondent Imrul Ahsan Jony, injured.

Later, BNP leaders, including Mirza Fakhrul, came down from the stage and brought the situation under control.

The BNP secretary general alleged that the agents of ruling Awami Leage intruded into the programme and orchestrated the incident.
