BNP hosted an iftar party in honour of foreign diplomats working in Bangladesh at a hotel in the capital on Thursday.

Before the iftar, senior leaders exchanged pleasantries with the guests at the party which was followed by dinner.

Welcoming the diplomats and other guests, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said his party is engaged in a movement for ‘restoration of democracy, rule of law and people’s rights’.

"Our 17 leaders and activists have been killed. BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is imprisoned in a false case and party acting Chairman Tarique Rahman was exiled by implicating him in false cases,” he said.

Special prayer was also offered before the iftar seeking welfare of the people and good health of Khaleda Zia.

The diplomats include US Ambassador, British High Commissioner, Russian Ambassador, Pakistani High Commissioner, Indian deputy High Commissioner and Iranian Ambassador.

Meanwhile, voicing concern over suing journalists, including Prothom Alo Editor Matiur Rahman under the Digital Security Act, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a written statement alleged that the government has been carrying out repression by using ‘black law’ to gag the press.
