An inception and briefing meeting on a project to combat extremism and terrorism was held in a city hotel on Saturday.
The joint project of Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) of police and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is tilted ‘Initiatives on Countering Violent Extremism and Terrorism through Strengthening of Community and Beat Policing Mechanisms and Strategies in Bangladesh.’
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun spoke as the chief guest while High Commissioner of Canada to Bangladesh Lilly Nichollas and Regional Representative of UNODC South Asia Marco Teixeira spoke as special guest and guest of honour respectively.
ATU Chief SM Ruhul Amin presided over the event.
