1 held with Tk 3.21cr gold in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Officials of Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) arrested an air passenger with 32 gold bars worth over Tk 3.21 crore from Shah Amanat International Airport in the port city on Thursday.        
The arrestee was identified as Zia Uddin, 25, son of Abul Bashar of Hathazari upazila in the district.

Sources said Zia arrived at the airport on a flight of Bangladesh Biman from Dubai around 6:20am.
Acting on a tip-off, the CIID officials picked him up from his seat after the aircraft landed at the airport and searched his body in the presence of officials of other agencies concerned.
They initially recovered 23 gold bars and 99 grams of ornament kept tactfully around his waist and in shoes, said CIID Joint Director Saifur Rahman.
However, some gold bars were also detected in his rectum after taking X-ray. Later, nine more gold bars were also recovered from his rectum.
The market price of the gold bars and ornaments weighing around 3.827 kilogram would be worth around Tk 3,21,46,800, said the joint director.
Filing of a case in this connection was under process, he added.
