Activists and leaders of Awami League (AL) celebrated the birthday of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Rupganj of Narayanganj on Friday.
On behalf of Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Rongdhonu Group arranged the programme in Pitalganj under the upazila.
Rongdhonu Group Chairman and Awami League leader Rafiqul Islam was the chief guest while Rupganj upazila unit former vice-president Abul Bashar Tuku chaired the session.
Daudpur Union Parishad Chairman Nurul Islam Jahangir was the main speaker at the meeting.
Addressing the event, Rongdhonu Group Chairman Rafiqul Islam said Bangabandhu became the greatest leader of Bangladesh through his befitting political career in between 1948 and 1969.
He hinted that Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan will contest the election from Rupganj.
Rupganj upazila vice-chairman Shahriar Panna Sohel, Kanchan municipality mayor Rafiqul Islam Rafiq, young industrialist Tariqul Islam Moghol, former union parishad chairman Abu Hossain Bhuiyan Ranu, Manjarul Islam Manju, Rongdhonu Group director Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Upazila AL unit’s research secretary Kamal Hossain Kamol, local leader Taiyabur Rahman were also present on the occasion.
Among others, Kayetpara AL unit general secretary Abdul Awal, Chhatra League upazila unit former vice-president Maniruzzaman Bhuiyan, AL leaders Ali Asgar, Safiqul Islam and Mayeen Molla, Swechasebak League local unit’s former president Mahiuddin Member, Sramik League upazila unit president Kazi Abdul Mazid, Bhulta unit leader Mozammel Haque Milan, Juba League upazila unit former vice-presidents Ali Master and Shakhawat Sikder, Swechasebak League leader Rafiqul Islam, union parishad members Riton Prodhan and Shamsul Haque spoke on the occasion.
