Experts at a ceremony on Thursday said more skilled and trained manpower, including doctors, is needed to ensure better treatment for heart diseases.
“The more doctors especially cardiologist will be trained, the more they will be skilled and have expertise in dealing with heart diseases. With upgrading technologies, the treatment method is also getting upgraded regularly in the world. So, the doctors need regular training,” said Prof Dr Fazila-Tun-Nesa Malik, Chief Consultant Cardiologist at National Heart Foundation Hospital & Research Institute (NHFHRI).
She made the statement while speaking at a deal signing ceremony at the NHFHRI in the city’s Mirpur area.
At the function, NHFHRI and Terumo signed an agreement on centre of excellence for mutual cooperation about training of doctors. Fazila-Tun-Nesa said the cardiovascular disease (CVD) is such an illness that is the leading cause of global death at present and is responsible for a large number of the deaths in Bangladesh.
Fazila-Tun-Nesa Malik said the NHFHRI has done 2,25643 cath-lab procedures from March in 1999 to 2022 in the country while 22,933 operations were carried out only in 2022 in the hospital.
Prof Khondker Abdul Awal Rizvi, secretary general of the National Executive Council of the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh, said such agreement with the Terumo will open up an opportunity for the country’s young doctors to enrich and enhance their knowledge about treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Kevin Seto, Managing Director of the Terumo Singapore, and Phyo Khine, another high official of the company, among others, were present at the function.
