Environment activists demand measures to protect river from pollution

RAJSHAHI: A human chain was formed at Shaheb Bazar Zero Point of Rajshahi city on Wednesday to press home their demand for protecting the rivers river from pollution and illegal occupation. 

Local unit of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) and Rajshahi Rakkha Sangram Parishad jointly organised the human chain and road side meeting on Wednesday.

At the programme, they unequivocally called for protecting the existing rivers, including the mighty Padma, through freeing those from pollution and illegal grabbing.

They said the unabated pollution, contamination and illegal grabbing are posing serious threats to the rivers. They demanded immediate actions against the malpractices.

Editor of Daily Sonali Sangbad Liakat Ali, Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, valiant freedom fighter Dr Abdul Mannan, BAPA members—Jamat Khan, Debashish Pramanik, Mizanur Rahman, Dr Hemayetul Islam and Selina Khatun, addressed the meeting among others.
