Bashundhara Foundation distributed the 65th segment of its interest-free loan among insolvent and marginal class people at Durgarampur in Bancharampur, Brahmanbaria on Monday, despite the Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc on the economic sector and business enterprises.
As a non-profit and social development platform of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group, the foundation is committed to extending support to poor people.
A total of 700 recipients, including 414 existing and 286 new beneficiaries, received Tk 10.50 million during the loan disbursement. Since 2005, Bashundhara Foundation has distributed the loan at 83 villages of 13 upazilas and one municipality in Bancharampur upazila, three villages in Nabinagar upazila under Brahmanbaria district, and nine villages in Homna upazila under Cumilla district.
Addressing the programme, Maynal Hossain Chowdhury said, "Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan always tries to stand by vulnerable people. His great heart, ample humanitarian approach, and efficiency prompt him to work for the cause of people. The interest-free loan is aimed at bringing economic empowerment to the insolvent people."
