Anisul nods further extension of Khaleda’s jail term suspension by 6 months

Law, Justice and Parliame-ntary Affairs Minister Anisul Huq on Sunday opined for extending the tenure of interim release of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia by suspending her jail term, for another six months, reports BSS.

"Her family had filed an application to extend the tenure of his conditional release. We have given our opinion to extend her release by another six months on two existing conditions (taking treatment in Dhaka and not to travel abroad)," the law minister told newsmen on Sunday noon.

Replying a question on whether Khaleda Zia's interim release tenure has already been extended or he just gave his opinion, Anisul Huq said he has given his opinion and believes the tenure of  Khaleda Zia's release would be extended like the earlier occasions.

"As per their application, she is severely ill. So, the question of her doing politics is irrelevant here. She is sick, she is free and is taking treatment. So, I think the arguments on her politics shall not come here," he added.

Earlier on March 9, the law minister had said his office has received an application to extend the tenure of interim release of BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia by suspending her jail term, but it was yet to be presented before him.

"It will be sent back to the Home Ministry after giving my opinion on that," he said on that day.
