After a winning start in the first match of the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup 2024 qualifiers, Bangladesh are now eyeing another victory against the toughest counterparts Iran in their second and last match of the three-team Group H today at the Bir Shrestha Shaheed Sepoy Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur.
The match kicks off at 05:00pm (BST).
Head coach Golam Rabbani Choton believes that his team are able to knock out Iran, who have already shown their strength by crushing Turkmenistan in their first match. “We can beat Iran because we have earlier beaten them three times at different age-level competitions in 2015, 2016 and 2018. We have our own plans to beat them,” Choton told the reporters on Saturday.
“Also, you can see that our girls are playing very competitively. We continued our domination against Turkmenistan for 90 minutes. If they are able to repeat the same against Iran, we can win again,” he said.
Under Choton, Bangladesh earlier beat Iran by 2-0 goals in AFC U-14 Girls’ Regional Championship in Tajikistan in 2015, by 3-0 in AFC U-16 Girls’ Asian Cup 2017 qualifiers in Dhaka in 2016 and by 8-1 in Jockey Club Girls’ International Youth Invitational Football Tournament in Hong Kong in 2018.
