RANGPUR: Efficient and well-organised disaster management has made Bangladesh a global role model in managing disasters and reducing losses of human lives and properties during all sorts of natural disasters.
Officials and experts expressed the view at a discussion organised by the district administration in association with the Department of Disaster Management at Zila School ground on Friday to observe the National Disaster Preparedness Day-2023, reports BSS.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Chitralekha Nazneen addressed the discussion as chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md. Rezaul Karim in the chair.
Deputy Director of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Md Abdul Hamid, its Senior Station Officer Md Badsha Alam Masud and Head Teacher of Zila School Abu Raihan Md Mizanur Rahman, among others, addressed.
Abdul Hamid said the government is working with utmost sincerity to strengthen efficient emergency response management systems, training, education, disseminating information and warnings among people to reduce risks of natural disasters.
“Bangladesh has achieved laudable success in innovating newer ways and educating people on early preparedness and post-disaster managements to reduce risks and losses of human lives during natural disasters,” he said.
The other speakers stressed on ensuring dissemination of information, early preparedness and providing training on basic first aid to volunteers to enhance their skills for assisting victims timely to further reduce the extent of losses during natural disasters.
