‘Number of vets to be increased’

Fisheries and Livestock Minister S M Rezaul Karim said that his government would raise the number of veterinary doctors all over the country.

“There is a shortage of veterinary doctors. We need many more vets. Such doctors are recruited by holding BCS examination, which is a lengthy process. Applicants for such posts are less than the demand.

“The persons having diploma courses on farm and domestic animals’ treatment, will also be recruited to treat animals,” said the minister at a programme titled ‘Divisional Media Orientation Workshop on Livestock Sector’ held at CIRDAP in the capital on Tuesday. Livestock and Dairy Development Project (LDDP) under the Department of Livestock Services and Poriprekkhit arranged the event.

The minister said that the coordinated efforts by the government, farmers, cattle farm owners, journalists and others will help develop the livestock sector.

Rezaul Karim urged journalists to write suggestive reports for the welfare of the sector. Chaired by Dr Emdadul Haque Talukder, director general of the DLS, Pronab Shaha, editor of private television channel DBC News, Dr Golam Rabbani, chief technical coordinator of the LDDP, and Abdur Rahim, projector director of LDDP, spoke, among others.
